Mercy dash to heal broken souls

Madagascar is a long way from the Darling Downs town of Chinchilla in Queensland, but come Christmas there’s no place Robyn Porep would rather be.

The 58-year-old physiotherapist has spent the last two Christmases on the Indian Ocean island with her husband Russell, 60, a marine engineer. There they’ve been doing something quite extraordinary: volunteering on the Africa Mercy, a fully equipped hospital ship run by the charity Mercy Ships, giving essential medical treatment to some of the planet’s poorest people.
